PE and Active Learning

Miss C Flamson (PE Lead)

At Eslington, we believe that children should be encouraged to develop a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. Physical Education is a key aspect of supporting pupils with their social and emotional development. Pupils and staff are committed to PE, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) and enjoy their lessons as well as many other opportunities to get active throughout the day. Children participate in lessons such as football, basketball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, games and dance. Additionally, the children complete the Daily Mile and participate in wake-up, shake-up every morning.

Children are taught the necessary skills to improve their co-ordination, balance, and spatial awareness, as well as having a focus on developing resilience, confidence and self-esteem. They are also taught the rules of games and to understand the importance of fair play within a team setting.

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

Eslington currently holds a GOLD Award for the School Games Mark and continues to participate in Kingsmeadow cluster and Gateshead School Sports Partnership sporting events.

We believe that if our pupils receive high quality PE lessons, that match their learning styles, abilities and needs.

Our approach to PESSPA aims to build a natural love of Physical Activity and promote a healthy, active lifestyle that pupils will aim to peruse as adults.
